Editorial Review :

Calphalon-quality construction meets museum-quality design in this strikingly-modern tea kettle. Durable, 18/10, stainless steel is mirror polished for a luminous finish that beautifully complements contemporary kitchens and stainless steel appliances. Its handle forms a graceful, free-form curve, while a distinctively-shaped spout tapers for easy pouring. The tempered-glass lid allows you to view kettle contents, plus includes a vent hole for safety. An impacted, bonded, heavy-gauge aluminum bottom provides the even heating and superior conductivity you'd expect from Calphalon. With a two-quart water capacity, this kettle measures 6-1/4 inches in diameter by 3-1/2 inches high. The piece is dishwasher-safe and covered by a lifetime warranty. --Mary Park

It's Beautiful.....but it LEAKS!

Absolutely fell in love with this kettle, it's design is gorgeous. It's so pretty that I always left it sitting on my stovetop and got tons of compliments on it. Well...I've had it less than a year and I have the same problem others have mentioned, corrosion at the spout. This was my very first piece of Calphalon and I didn't worry about the price because I expected to have it forever! I have babied this little tea kettle like you wouldn't believe! Always hand washed it and immediately dried it, we only use a tea kettle once every couple of months in my house! I'm gonna try to reach Calphalon for a new--and different- kettle, as I've just decided the new cookware I want for Christmas is a Calphalon set, their customer service reaction will be extremely important!

5 Stars Until It Leaked

I spent a great deal of time last fall searching for the perfect tea kettle. I absolutely loved this one. It was sturdy and held a lot of water. No whistle was the only drawback. Then it started leaking suddenly one day and almost a full pot of water quickly drained into my ceramic cooktop. I was afraid it had ruined the stove. It leaked under the spout. After reading other reviews, it seems that I'm not the only one to have this problem. It's a shame because it is one of the only kettles that doesn't have a handle get in the way of filling it and has an attractive design. Now I'm back to square one! Anyone have a good suggestion for a replacement?

Great tea kettle

I have had this kettle for 4 years and it still looks and works great.
The only issues I have with it are the fact that the handle gets very hot on a gas stove but does not do so on an electric stove. I also do not like the fact that it does not whistle when boiling. I have many times forgotten that I had the kettle on. Thankfully no disasters!

Great until spout fell off...

We used this kettle for several years, and it worked just fine. We did have an issue with getting our hands burned from the steam, but kept potholder handy to solve that problem. The main reason we are not using it anymore is that while filling my cup one day, the spout fell off into my tea. OOPS! Thats not right!
Called Calphalon to see about having it replaced, but was informed that they dont offer it any more. They said to ship it back and they would give me a certificate to use for another Calphalon product. Bottom line: It was ok, until it fell apart.

A Very Good Kettle

I read a lot of kettle reviews - never thought buying a tea kettle would be so complicated - so here's the result. This kettle meets many of the concerns expressed by buyers. 1 - it has No Bottom Seam. Thats a critical flaw in a lot of kettles. 2. it has a useful filling lid. 3. it has a whistle that can be heard. No funny low whooing or internal reeds to mess with. 4. it is made of sturdy metal. 5. it has a handle that works. 6. its good looking. 7. it holds 2 quarts. I bought this because of these attributes and I think its the best buy of all those featured when I got it. I did learn to turn down the heat so as not to heat the handle rather than the water. Watch the side of your kettle. If its steaming, high flame is shooting up past the bottom and reaching the handle above. This does not do the kettle any good. If this one is left to whistle away, a little steam blasts up into the handle and heats it on the front. This is a leak and not perfect but its not critical. The handle cools very quickly. I would like to see more than one screw holding the handle on but the unit seems very sturdy. I just wanted a kettle. I got a research project but it was worth it and I'm pleased with the purchase.

Happy with teapot

This was a birthday gift for my daughter who loves the color black. She loves her teapot and would recommend this to anyone. Has owned for 4 months and no problems.

This made a believer out of my aunt

My mother insisted that my 87-year-old aunt needed a "decent tea kettle" for her new house even though she'd never before used one and didn't want one now. I purchased this one for my mother to give her baby sister. "Auntie" loves it. She can hear the whistle throughout the house, it's easy to handle, and is attractive sitting on the stove.

Defective handle

After two months of using it just once a day, the handle to the lid broke off. I have to say that the handle felt loose right out of the box so it was only a matter of time. I guess I got a defective one. This is just my preference but I don't like the fact that I can't keep the lid to the spout opened. You have to hold the handle to keep it opened. Maybe I'm being picky but almost every other model of tea kettles allow it to stay open.

Red Teakettle

Red Teakettle. The last one I bought the lit handle broke from the heat this one is a much better design. I am very happy. Plus it is red...

The Beauty of fine design

If you are reading this, you are looking for a tea kettle...something to heat water in, something solid and
reliable--and it should whistle, too. What could be more simple? There are so many to choose from! So hard to decide...
Chances are, you are intrigued by this one, as I was. It looks a little different, and it is. Notice the handle--it is so well-designed--a perfect balance when you pick it up. It is a delight to use! Get it, get it, get it...heating water for coffee or tea will not be the same. You will enter a realm of beauty, the beauty of fine design--the art of the everyday. There is a choice of colors, red, white, black, brushed stainless as well as the polished stainless shown here. I leave that choice to you.

Cannot get handle parts

Tea kettle is nice, but you cannot order handle parts. My husband was told by OXO Customer Service that we could not purchase the handle (replaces with one screw) or broken part but could ship the entire kettle for repair. Our shipping costs make it more than its value. So our love affair with OXO products is over. Kettle handle apparently does not 'handle' high heat use. I was in love, now I'm 'in search' again.

cheap construction

Cheap, flimsy construction. I have had this kettle for about two months and the handle has separated from the body of the kettle. The handle is held on by two small screws. The screws loosened and could not be retightened. Finally the handle came off and cannot be reattached as the threads in the screw holes are stripped out. Oxo cut to many corners in engineering this kettle. Save your money on purchasing this kettle.

OXO pick me up

I bought the OXO pick me up in store before I read the reviews. After I read the reviews I wanted to return it without even open the box and use it. But I think about it, it's not fair to the store and the product if I return the kettle just because of other people's reviews. I think I should trust myself because I saw it and touched it in the store. It's good quality. I finally gave it a try. Luckily, it's no problem.

1.The whistle is not "uselessly quiet " and there is no leaking .

2. The handle is not hot at all. It's cool. ( I follow the instructions. I used medium to high heat to boil the water and remove it from heat immediately after I heard the whistle. But I guess it may get hot if you don't remove it from heat right away.

3. There is no nasty metallic taste so far , I used five times. But the water doesn't taste as good as my Braun(it's perfect except it's made of plastic!!!) I hope one day the researchers will say that kind of plastic is no harm.

Right now the last thing I need to worry about is the plastic spout cover melting problem. I guess if I remove the kettle from heat right after the water is boiling, the plastic spout cover should not melt because I touched it right after I boiled the water it's not hot.

Nasty Metallic Taste

We will be looking forward to throwing it out because it gives off a nasty metallic taste after heating the water. We thought it was the tap water but it is indeed the kettle. It makes me pretty upset because my wife drinks a few cups of tea everyday and I dont know what kinds of metals/toxins she is ingesting. Please beware. We had a Zojirushi hot water pot that broke during our move across the country. Please check that out...its the way to go although it costs $100+. They are popular in Japan. We will be getting another one and forget about any kind of kettle from now on.

Can anyone recommend an electric kettle that does not leak

Answer:
99.99% don't leak, you must have just been unlucky

Question : How do I mend a copper kettle
I have an old copper kettle that leaks a tiny bit at the bottom where the sides & base join. How do I mend it, because I assume that the solder that I have contains lead, and it needs to be able to stand the heat on the top of the stove. Thank you.
