Without a doubt, the best!

After trying other (more expensive) toaster ovens, I ordered this one. It's absolutely perfect. The toast now has the texture of toast instead of overly-baked bread. It's very easy to use and it's compact. I should know to stick with Black & Decker from this point on!

Timer comment

Overall good value for the price. The timer knob is a bit tricky to set for shorter time intervals, so it can very challenging to make light or medium toast. There are no settings for light toast for example, you just have to turn the timer knob and hope for the best.

Not like they used to be....

Purchased to replace a much loved, older B&D toaster-oven that had lost its door handle and was beginning to look dingy. This newer model, while the price was right, the settings are more complicated that need be. Plus I hate having to use a windup timer for toasting. After over a month using it, I still under-cook - or burn - toasts, bagels, etc. The oven part seems to be pretty accurate for temperature and the larger space is great. Re construction: the internal groove where the slide-in tray fits is slightly off on one side which causes the tray to be misaligned. Hardly noticeable but there nevertheless. Made in China!

Great

This thing is great... i use it everyday. No need to heat up the whole house when you are cooking for one.

Works but gets really hot on the outside.

The controls on this are pretty easy to use, but it doesn't have good insulation. The top and back of the unit get hot enough to burn. Because of this I would not use this toaster oven with children around.

You also need lots of space around the toaster oven to ensure you don't heat up anything else by accident.

Surprised our house hasn't burned down by now

I was under the impression that when I set the level of done-ness and heard a ticking sound that the toaster oven was, in fact, counting down until my food would be done to the desired level, at which point the oven would turn off and ding. This was a poor assumption, apparently. Whether you set the oven to light, medium, or dark, it just keeps toasting. And toasting. And toasting. It never dings. It never turns off. It just burns the food. Once, in fact, I opened the door, pulled out the food, shut the door, and manually cranked the knob to the off position--and the toaster oven *still* didn't turn off. I sort of feel like I could just light a fire in my kitchen and put bread on top--it would be the same system. We are keeping this little hazzard unplugged until I can lug it to a proper disposal area.

Junk

We were always satisfied with Black and Decker products, but this toaster is junk and
dangerous.
It doesn't toast well but does get very hot at the back and top, our daughter burned
her fingers on it. It's going in the garbage where it belongs.

Great one year commitment

My family and I use our toaster oven more than any other kitchen appliance. We seem to replace them about every 5-7 years. I purchased this Black & Decker toaster oven a year ago for $15. It worked just fine, but slowly fell apart -- at about the 8 month mark, the handle jiggled loose from the glass front making it hard to open the door, especially when the door was hot. Two weeks ago the timer stopped working -- a pain, but not terminal. Finally a small electrical short. If you are looking for an inexpensive short-term appliance this is the toaster oven for you.

Black & Decker Toaster Oven

My husband and I own a rental condo on the island of Molokai. When our old toaster oven started looking bad we ordered this one and had it shipped. So far all of the responses we've received from our guests have been outstanding. The old toaster oven took up more room. This one does the exact same thing but isn't as bulky and seems to work better. I so appreciate the fact that Amazon ships to Hawaii. Most companies won't. I don't know what we'd do without you. Thank you!

On a hot day you'll appreciate the ability to bake, toast, broil and reheat without heating up your kitchen by using your full size oven. At breakfast time you can toast up to 4 slices of bread. For convenience the TRO490W features a 15-minute auto-off bake timer and a bake and toast signal bell. When the door is opened, the dual-position rack advances for easy access.

misleading marketing - product not as pictured

I just purchased this model from Target to replace our previous Toast-R-Oven. I was surprised that there were no hooks on the door to catch the rack. The pictures on the box and manual show metal on the door where hooks would presumably be. The manual even refers to using the hooks to pull the rack out. I called the Customer Care line to make sure these things applied to my model before I returned it and was told that the newer ones don't have the hooks. The rep even seemed aware of the issue as he referenced the discrepancy in the manual before I did. I pointed out that it was misleading and he said something about people working on it.

Serious safety and quality problems.

The unit I purchased was defective from the start. I experienced the issue with timer failure that other reviewers described on my very first use. Additionally, unlike my previous model, this unit either doesn't shut off when the door opens, or that safety feature is broken as well. The hooks that move the grate in and out with the door were missing in my unit. That feature was a primary reason I chose this model to begin with. Lastly, the controls are poorly designed, making the unit unusually complicated to operate for such a simple device.

If you are considering purchasing this unit, I would avoid it at all costs. B&D has a number of other models that are much better reviewed here.

If you have one already, you should return it immediately and contact B&D to recommend a recall.

Bottom line: THIS PRODUCT IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE.

Uneven toasting

I have always considered Black & Decker to be a solid, reputable brand. However this toaster oven makes me think twice. Out of the box, it worked for a little while though not ideally. The bread would toast more on the outside edge and less in the middle of the oven. This meant we had to rotate the toast part way through to get it even. We decided to put up with this because, well... the oven was cheap. We got it on sale for half off.

However after a few months of daily use the elements started to degrade. The heating elements don't provide even heat/radiation. You can visibly see that the left side of the element is darker than the right side. Also the top of the bread toasts a lot more than the bottom. Now we have to babysit the toast the entire time and rotate/flip it repeatedly.

You get what you pay for I guess.

unit not what's on box

I bought this at a big box store thankfully because the 2nd one is going back today. The first one had a broken handle right out of the box. I exchanged it. Now the door flops open and almost broke my plate. The picture on the box and the instructions show hooks that attach to the rack to help it slid out, which I was thinking would slow down the door. My old B&D had a spring loaded door so it didn't flop open.
I called Customer Care. The guy was REALLY nice but said that the redesigned model didn't have the hooks but they were still selling it in the old box with the old instructions. Swell! I don't like the 3 dials. I'd rather have a permanent "toast" setting. I do like the idea of a timer so I don't leave it on bake for days but I don't trust this model particularly based on the other reviews. This one's going back to the store.

Crumb Tray

I have already left a very favorable review for this item. Just FYI...the crumb tray pulls out from under the glass door. If you pull it all the way out, you don't have to turn the appliance upside down. This is a GREAT product, especially for the price. We own 3 of them! One at home, one at Grandma's and one in the RV.

Question : Which hammer drill should I buy
I'm considering these two:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dllViewItem&item=220392765850a Black & Decker 6.5-amp 1/2" hammer drill, model DR650 for $47orhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dllViewItem&item=160331416889a Hitachi 8.3-amp 1/2" hammer drill, model DV20VB2 for $77They're both 2-mode (same speed ranges) reconditioned drills w/ warranties. The Hitachi is lighter, has more power, and comes w/ a case, but is that worth $30 moreAny thoughts, tips, hints, or recommendations on hammer drills are welcome. Thanks for all the answers I sprang for the Hitachi. The things I mentioned above, your comments, and the speed control dial were all selling points for me. I have an old B&D drill that has served me well, but like Jim W. said, maybe they're not what they used to be. I can't decide a best answer, so I'm putting it to a vote.

Answer:
Of the two brands, Hitachi is much better.I've had an old Hitachi hammer drill that I inherited from my late mentor that just won't quit. And it's not for lack of trying, believe me..

Question : How do I hook up my subs to my amp, and then my amp to a 12 volt battery charger
I am inexperienced with this kind of stuff. I have the package deal Visoniks that are 10 inches wide and they cam with an amp and the wiring kit. They are the red and black ones with a black box. My friend tried to hook the subs to the amp, but I don't know if it works. Could someone show me the step by step on how to do it How do I then hook up the amp to a 12 volt battery charger. It is a black and decker one. Should I use a battery instead And finally, how do I hook all this up to my tv This is a lot of stuff, but is there anything better than the 12 volt battery charger Please anyone give me some advice. My friend did it with his subs and his speakers that were made for his car. I should prob just have him do it.

Answer:
That's impossible to hook up to your home system but if you do it please let me know.
