This is a stainless steel 5.0 litre pressure cooker with a whistling pressure cooker
Customer Review :
A must have
Indian cooking becomes ridiculously easy with a pressure cooker - especially if you are planning on cooking lentils or beans. Not only do you save time, you also retain nutrients which can otherwise be destroyed when exposed to high heat for long periods of time.
Safety is virtually guaranteed with Hawkins' foolproof design - if the lid is not closed properly, the cooker just won't attain full pressure and so won't become dangerous; if there is even a little pressure remaining, the lid just won't be forced open. And if - this happened to me once - you put in too little water by mistake and the cooker boils dry, you are still okay thanks to a safety valve ingeniously placed just under the bar on the lid - so that when it opens up, the heat gets deflected away from you.
I have only used aluminum cookers, but the stainless steel ones are great too - if a little more expensive. Worth it if you want to avoid stains that can sometimes be a problem with aluminum cookers. I have three cookers in 2, 3.5 and 4.5 litre sizes. 2L is ideal if you're living alone and the 3.5 is just right for a two person family. I use the 4.5 when I cook for guests. I will still buy the 5L because it really is the most convenient size for an average family.
My only grouse with buying these cookers online is that you don't get accessories or replacement parts as easily as you can in Indian stores. After I blew out the safety valve in my 2L, I'm waiting for my next trip to India to get the lid fixed. Also, the 5L (and above) sizes become much more useful when you can use them with accessories like inserts - for multilevel cooking inside the cooker (cook two dishes in one go) and steamers - (for rice cakes etc.)
Bottom line - if you are planning on cooking Indian dishes, invest in a pressure cooker. Its versatile enough to cook pulses, vegetables and meats and will last you a lifetime!

Indian whistling pressure cooker is a kitchen champ
I absolutely love my Hawkins pressure cooker.
The construction is top notch, a well engineered design that has the oval top lid actually under the top lip of the pot, sealing like the door of an airplane. It is impossible to open this cooker while still pressurized, making it a very safe cooker, in addition, as the lid doesn't twist on, like almost all other pressure cooker designs, the gasket isn't subjected to wear and it lasts a lot longer.
The bottom of the pot is a sandwich of stainless steel surrounding a thick aluminium insert for even heat distribution, a must if you're going to be frying before cooking under pressure. Oh yes, and this is one of the famous Indian whistling cookers. Once you get the measure of your cooktop and where to turn the heat down to after full pressure is built, the regular whistle steam release makes a very useful timer. You'll find many recipes from India using this timing method. A very fine cooker indeed, I highly recommend it.

I've returned
it didn't work properly. Water and steam was coming out from around the valve. I've returned right after running the initial test.

Vasconia 4-quart aluminum pressure cooker
Customer Review :
worst product and worst customer care
I bought this item in December of 2009. It got broken in 15 days. It started leaking from all the valves. I contacted the costomer service for the replacement in January. I sent the item in the first week of January. I needed to pay the shipping charges more than the price of the cooker. It has been about five months and I have not recieved the item yet. The warranty services is worst. I called them about 10 times but still no success. I recommend everyone not to buy this item. The quality is very poor. Customer service is very bad. I hope this will prevent other people from burden by buying this item.

Pleasure Pressure
Worth every penny of it! It is a great buy! Built quality is good, the coating on the outside is legit. There is no pressure leaks! A very good product, and worth the money

Great for Beginners; But Has a Few Nuances
When I bought this pressure cooker, my goals were: (a) learn how to quickly prepare healthy meals, thereby avoiding fast food; and (b) not blow up my kitchen. Price was a major consideration, as my salad shooter, electric cheese grater, ice cream maker, and electric frying pan don't need another expensive companion in the "haven't used it in years" cabinet above the refrigerator.
Since I only paid $19.95 for the pressure cooker, I figured my first meal should be frugal as well. I bought some fresh broccoli, peas, mild chilies, and carrots on manager's sale at the local grocery. I sautéed a small onion and a diced tomato in the bottom of the cooker , then added the vegetables, three cups of rice, pepper, and a 26 oz. container of chicken broth. I clamped the lid on, cranked up the burner until steam started coming out, then put on the steam valve, lowered the heat, and cooked the whole thing for about 5 minutes. The result was a very tasty vegetable paella.
Here are a few hints for anyone buying one of these cookers. First, the master steam valve cap comes in a very small unmarked brown box in the bottom of the big box with the pressure cooker. It's very easy to miss, and I actually had to go fishing through my recycle bin to find it.
Also, there is a safety lock on the handle that engages when the cooker is under pressure. It is a small metal rod that protrudes down into the cooker and rises when pressure builds. You have to be careful not to over fill the cooker, or the valve can get stuck. If this happens, all the steam will escape through handle and you'll end up with a steamer instead of a pressure cooker.
I tested my pressure cooker by filling it with a few cups of water, letting the steam build, and checking the valves.
I couldn't find an answer in the directions, but I think you are supposed to hand wash these cookers; not put them in the dishwasher.
Overall, a pretty handy gadget for well less than the cost of a family dinner. For now, I'm keeping mine on the kitchen counter, close the the drawer with all the fast food menus. I'm hoping it stays there, in use, for a good while.

Pressure Cooker
I was used to using a SEB pressure cooker made in France and it took some getting used to the Vasconia pressure cooker because it takes a little longer to get to cooking temperature. Other than that, it works great and really tenderizes some usually tough cuts of meat. The size is great when cooking for 2 people.

What's Cooking Low Fat
This is one of the easiest cookbooks I have ever owned. I usually dislike how many cookbooks have complicated recipes that take a lot of time. This one has quick and easy to follow recipes that are good for when I get home from work and don't want to spend all night cooking. Not to mention that all of the recipes are low in fat, the fat grams are listed on each recipe. You'll love the meals and the ease of the recipes.

Compact Cookbook Can't Crowd Cathy's Cooking Counter!
Cute little cookbook packed with great recipes, easy to read & follow instructions, and terrific photos! Perfect if you don't have a lot of counter space for recipe preparation--no large, bulky cookbook to work around!

Absolutely the best cookbook I own!
This is one of my favorite cookbooks! Every recipe I've tried is fabulous and I've made some of them so often that I have them memorized. I really love the Pan-cooked Pork Medallions w/ Apples & Cider, Strawberry Roulade, Red Roast Pork w/ Bell Peppers (on the cover) and the Broiled Chicken w/ Lemon & Honey. The Red Fruits w/ Foaming Sauce is very simple to make and very impressive to dinner guests.
The recipes are simple and use ingredients that you can find at any grocery store. Most recipes are no more than 5 or 6 steps and include color photos of some of the steps--how to cut the meat, folding in ingredients, etc. I love this because I'm a visual person and I like to see what I need to do instead of just reading about it. There is also a beautiful, full-page, color picture of the final product FOR EACH RECIPE! This is wonderful because you have an idea of what the finished product should look like and how you can present it. I highly recommend this cookbook! It proves that low fat does not mean no taste or flavor!

Simple and Easy Cooking!
This is one of my favorite cookbooks! Every recipe I've tried is fabulous and I've made some of them so often that I have them memorized. I really love the Pan-cooked Pork Medallions w/ Apples & Cider, Broiled Chicken w/ Lemon & Honey, Strawberry Roulade and the Beef & Peanut Salad. My absolute favorite desert is the Red Fruits w/ Foaming Sauce. It's SO EASY and everyone thinks you spent forever making it.
Personally, I don't have any problems reading the text in this cookbook. Yes the print is tiny, but what do size text do you expect in a book that's only 6 inches tall? I really like the compact size because it's easy to take with me to the grocery store when I shop for ingredients. The recipes are simple and use ingredients that you can find at any store. Most recipes are no more than 5 or 6 steps. Each recipie has photos of some of the more complicated steps. By complicated I mean they show you what size to cut the meat, how to fold in the ingredients, etc. I love this because I'm a visual person and I like to see what I need to do instead of just reading about it. There is also a beautiful, full page color picture of the final product FOR EACH RECIPE so you have an idea of what the finished product should look like and how you can present it.

Questions & Answers Powered by Yahoo! Answers
Question : I need to get my hawkins pressure cooker lid(vasher) repaired.
Can anyone tell me the name of shop and address in singapore where this can be done.
Answer:
Is it a repair you can do yourself by replacing a partI had to repair my pressure cooker once. The most commonly needed repair is when, due to overheating, the soft metal plug safety feature melts and falls out. All you have to do to repair this is get a new part that screws into the lid of your pressure cooker and contains a new plug. I will put a link below for Hawkins parts, or you can Google "Hawkins Pressure Cooker Parts," though probably you will need to send overseas to get them.I would be concerned about getting a repair that would not replace a whole part. The reason pressure cookers have so many safety features is because they absolutely need pressure releases to be safe. A repair person who doesn't really know what they're doing could unintentionally make the pressure cooker dangerous to use.
