Questions & Answers
Question : recommanded courseness for home brew machine?
coffee lovers and professionals please recommand a setting for me. I have Gaggia MDF burr grinder at hand dont know how course to set it to. Manual only mentioned 5-10. Be used for regular auto brew drip machine. Star bucks beans

Answer:
It should be a fine grind, but not powdery. Here's a great article, and they recommend a medium-fine grind for most drip makers. It also depends on the machine you're using.

Question : why would i buy a better Espresso coffee machine?
hello, ( i need help from the coffee fanatics or some one who knows some thing about coffee.)i have a breville 800 es pro. A manual $40 coffee bean grinder. I push the button to the desired grind. The machine can not extract and steam at the same time. I can make n awesome cup of coffeeany one out there know why i would move to a more expensive coffee machine and grinder? any one know any good good reasons to do so?thanks for any help

Answer:
It's hard to explain if you've never had real espresso. And the Breville doesn't make "real" espresso. That said, as long as you're happy with your coffee, that's all that matters. If you enjoy what you drink, there's not much reason to upgrade. Now, onto the snob part:Real espresso is an experience unlike any other. You don't need to spend a lot of money for rich espresso (and you can keep your grinder, although a burr grinder is better). The http://www.amazon.com/Bialetti-Brikka-4-Cup-Stovetop-Percolator/dp/B0001DJT7G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=h ome-garden&qid=1251167415&sr=1-1 is a great stove-top espresso maker. It's not the same as a big machine (and can't froth milk) but it's better than most machines < $400.If you decide to take the plunge, this is my setup (although they've improved it even more since I bought mine) http://www.1stincoffee.com/rancilio-silvia-rocky.htm. The only bad thing I can say about it is that you can't pull another shot after heating up to steaming milk. For that you need a dual boiler (lots more $$$). Other than that, I can make one shot after another & there are tons of home modifications available to keep any geek happy.

Question : can you grind spices in a Mr. Coffee coffee grinder? the manual says NO.?
can you grind spices in a Mr. Coffee coffee grinder? the manual says NO.?

Answer:
Depends on which model it is, some will work better then others. Personally, I would not try it in the Mr. coffee model IDS77 its kind of cumbersome for grinding up spices. In the Mr. coffee model IDS55 however, I wouldn't even think twice. With that model I would just make sure it is throughly clean before grinding any coffee; only reason, coffee and spices don't taste well together.

Question : BARISTAS HELP! Bought my first espresso machine, now what? What are the extra accessories I need?
I just bought my first espresso machine; it's "DeLonghi BCO130T Combination Coffee/Espresso Machine". Here is the link to the product:http://www.amazon.com/DeLonghi-BCO130T-Combination-Espresso-Machine/dp/B000F2M16O/ref=sr_1_1 ?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1205453139&sr=1-1I'm pretty good at navigating the net, but I cannot find a place that tells me exactly what I need! Do I get a grinder for beans? Also, I was going to get a frothing pitcher and a thermometer, do I really need these? I was also looking into getting some of the espresso pods. I know that they won't taste as good, but it will be great for those mornings when I'm in a rush! The pods say that your machine has to be designed to accept "ESE" coffee pods. I was looking at the machine's manual online and couldn't find this anywhere. Is there anything else I need? Oh and by the way, I usually drink lattes and stuff like that. Thanks for your help in advance!!! =o)

Answer:
Ok, I'm not a barista, but I have an espresso machine. You could get a grinder for the espresso beans, or just buy it already ground. I don't use a thermometer, so it might be nice, although not necessary. You need something to use to steam/froth the milk, though a specific frothing pitcher isn't necessary. I use a ceramic mug. I've been told that either ceramic or stainless steel mugs work well. Note: keep this in the fridge, it somehow helps with the frothing...not sure why.Hope this helps.

Question : How to Use Blade Coffee Grinder for French Press?
I have bought a used Bosch coffee grinder (MKM6003). However, it didn't come with a manual. Could someone please point me to an instruction of how long to use a blade coffee grinder (180W, 3ounce capacity) for a french press, a moka pot, and a filter dripper? Thanks in advance :)

Question : Can i use pepper mill to grind coffee beans?
i have recently developed liking for coffee. addiction actually. Can one use manual pepper mill to grind coffee beans fresh daily?are coffee grinders avlb in India? i am from Hyderabad. where to get them?

Answer:
I took a look at the inside of the pepper mills at home, and they are pretty small. The coffee grinder is somewhat bigger, and the coffee's flavor will be changed by the flavor of the pepper unless the mill is cleaned very very well.

Question : Best coffee grinder for £35 ish ?
not bothered if its manual (Think they look quite authentic), or electrical just performance - needed to grind a nice fine even grind for espresso machine. going to use 4/5 roast most of the time. Thanks for any help.

Answer:
I wouldnt't go for a blade grinder, specially if you are making espresso. Because when making espresso, pressure is the one of the most critical thing (ideally 9 - 9.5 bar of pressure depending on your beans)And with grinders that use blade, you wont be able to get a consistent grind to finetune your tamping for your espresso.I would strongly advise you to get a burr grinder, that way you will be able to get the best out of you espresso machine. I dont know how much it cost in your place but, for entry level I would say get a Gaggia MM, or sunbeam.if it is over your buget, then just try to get any burr coffee grinder, and get one that you have most adjustable setting. Gaggia MM, I think have 10- 15? and sunbeam have 25

Question : What can grind seeds up into powder besides a coffee grinder?
Somthing cheaper and perhaps manual

Answer:
A mortar & pestle...or you can put the seeds in a plastic baggie and use the flat side of a meat hammer (tenderizer) to pulverize the seeds. I find it easier to buy a small grinder for about $20.00 and use it exclusively for the spices I use. Also an old hand turned pepper mill you don't use anymore.

Question : Coffee Beans and Grinders?
Silly question I know. I have bought a coffee grinder ages ago for grinding spices and have now got some tesco coffee beans. Thing is my grinder has the settngs for minimum of 4 cups. How much (weight or no of beans) will need to be ground for a standard not strong cup of coffee. I can't find my manual anywhere. Thanks

Answer:
I have various coffee makers and both a coffee mill and a coffee grinder. Anyhow the best coffee is made in my old fashioned Cona and the rule for making coffee this way is 2oz to 2pints brewed for 2mins! Simple and makes perfect coffee. I have applied this to other coffee makers with good results. The key thing being using the correct grind for the method. ie if making filter coffee still 2oz to 2pints but finely ground (filter fine), as this drips through then the time element doesn't apply, if you were using an old stove top percolator then you would still use 2oz to 2pints but a coarse ground so therefore you would increase the brew time to a bit longer. One of my large cups holds 1/2pint so I would use 1/2oz to each one of these. If your cups are 1/3pint each then use 1/3oz for each cup.

Question : Japanese brand coffee press?
I was at a japanese product mall earlier and i came across a huge display of coffee presses (french press) and coffee strainers. They also had manual coffee grinders and other stuff for tea but i can't remember the name. All i know is that it was pretty high end stuff, most of their coffee strainers start at around 80 to over 100 usd and I'm pretty sure the brand name started with an H. Anyone know what brand this is?

Answer:
HARIO
