Questions & Answers
Question : where can I buy chafing dishes in the Tampa Bay area ?
I have a big event coming up and need to purchase a few chafing dishes. I do not want to go to Party City and purchase the foil ones. I want/need nice ones. Actually, I am in the Clearwater/St.Pete area and will go to Tampa if need be. Thank you !!!

Answer:
If you have a Costco Business Ctr(not the standard warehouse), they're likely to carry some decent ones, but if you have your heart set more fancy(like casino style) you might try a local restaurant supply store.FYI - Standard stainless steel will cost you anywhere from $50(costco) to $75. Fancy with more detail will start at about $125 ea full size chafer(new). You might also consider renting them from a party rental place. Here's just one, but i'm sure there must be more in your area.http://coasttocoasteventrentals.com/equipment.asp?action=category&category=24

Answer:
Find a restaurant equipment supply place. Check to be sure they will sell to the public.

Question : How do you remove water spots/stains on chafing dishes?
How do you remove water spots/stains on chafing dishes?

Answer:
I'd use water and vinegar and a soft cloth and polish away.

Question : Chafing dishes?
I just saw a classified where someone was asking for chafing dishes. Isn't that kind of sick?Poll: Cream or lotion?Um, Stupid? Don't be living up to your name, dude.

Answer:
It is kind of sick. I wouldn't tape plates to my thighs. That's just weird. Cornstarch baby powder works best.

Question : keeping pretzels warm in a chafing dish?
I am having a carnival party for my sons birthday, can I use chafing dishes to keep pretzels warm after throwing them into the oven? How should I do it? Should I wrap in silver foil before putting into chafing dish to keep warm?** The party will not be held at my house, it is in a hall that is located around the corner, I figured I would warm them then transport them to the hot sternos at the hall. No kitchen is available there.

Answer:
Are you going to be in your kitchen? If so, improvise an old-fashioned bun warmer. It was great for keeping dough products warm after baking and was used mainly before microwaves came along. It was a large pan with a removable insert. The insert had some holes in it. You put water in the bottom of the main pan, and then set the insert in. You got the water warm enough to steam, then put your rolls or whatever in a towel and set them in the insert. It kept them nice and warm, while the steam kept them from drying out. You can't buy these anymore, of course, but you can probably improvise one with a metal strainer and a big pan.

Question : what is the name of the thing that lights at the bottom of chafing dishes?
what is lit to keep the food hot.

Answer:
Its called Fred

Question : POTATOES...need to prepare 20 lbs for a work picnic. want to cook in oven , then serve in chafing dishes?
I have medium red potatoes....looking for 2 different recipes....hot dishes only please...thank you for your help!

Answer:
Wash, cut (either in 1/2's or 1/4's), pat dry. Place 1/2 of potatoes in large plastic bag. Pour in small amount of oil ( I use olive oil) add black pepper, garlic powder, mrs. dash. Seal the bag, removing as much air as possible. Rub the oil and seasoning onto the potatoes until all potatoes in that bag are evenly coated. Put in fridge and let set for at least 30 minutes. Pour potatoes out in a single layer on to a baking sheet. Bake uncovered at 350* for about 20 - 30 minutes. Take other half of potatoes, also place in plastic bag. Add enough of your favorite pre-made marinade, to coat these potatoes. I like the lemon pepper or Italian. Also let these set in fridge for 30 minutes and proceed as instructed above.I have also used the following as marinade's with great results:BBQ saucemustard-ginger coatingfrench salad dressingYou can also take one of these batches and boil them in broth. When are about half way done, drain 3/4 of the broth off and add 1/2 cup heavy cream (milk will be okay to use, just not as thick), 2 tablespoons butter, 1 teaspoon garlic, black pepper, and 4 tablespoons parsley. Allow the potatoes to continue cooking in this mixture until done. Sauce shoud thicken and reduce. Serve hot. (you can do this in the oven as well, just use a covered dutch oven type dish, and uncover after you add the cream, it takes about a hour total time at 350*)Hope these gives you some ideas. Good luck to you..

Question : How do you keep food warm at a party without using a chafing dish?
I'm having a party for my little boy and need ideas on keeping food warm. I will have some things in a chafing dish but I do not have enough to hold all the foods. Also I plan to put the hotdogs in boats made of cardstock with a pirate sail on a toothpick so I do not think I can keep it cute and warm too. It's a pirate birthday party.

Answer:
Ahoy Mate...how about wrapping the boats in tin foil. Bundle the tin foil on each one leaving room for a tie, but instead of a bow or tie use a pirate patch. When have them eat the warm hot dog boat with one eye like a pirate, they will get a kick out of it.However, judging from "my little boy" I really do not think they care if it is hot or not, kids will eat cold pizza, hot dogs, even soup.In your case it will too much fun eating it to care if it is hot and besides pirates do not have ovens!Don't forget to make the chairs look like boat seats, of course after singing happy birthday to the birthday boy, mate over board! If this does not help try contacting the site below theyhave a free Party Planning Consultant on line and tonsof party ideas on the party tab.Enjoy them, they are 20 years before you know it and with boys you have to call them and remind them they have a mama!
