Questions & Answers
Question : How can I remove furniture polish (pledge) from my kitchen table (sealed wood)?
Our table is covered in pledge, which comes off on my hands whenever I sit down to eat (or do anything else at the table). I don't want to ruin the table, but it is currently very unpleasant to sit at. I tried using dishwashing detergent (lots), but it didn't seem to make a dent. Help, please!

Answer:
you can try a small area where its not noticeable using pine-sol it has worked for me on wax before

Question : How can I slightly fill in the factory's "planked-look" grooves that are on my new kitchen table & furniture?
I recently purchased several pieces of Broyhill furniture at a GREAT deal. They are from "Cherry Attic Heirloom" collection. I love the style, however the kitchen table has grooves(blade cuts) cut into the top to give a rustic planked look. The grooves look just like a saw blade's cut and are stained black to contrast with the cherry top finish. A beautiful look, but not practical for a kitchen table as I cannot wipe the table without all of the crumbs going into the grooves. I would like to SLIGHTLY fill the grooves with a "clear wood filler" so that the lines are still noticeable but wiping will be easier. I do not know what to use... shellac(afraid of the white rings from water or heat), polyurethane, lacquer, varnish, epoxy,.... I do not think a typical chalky wood filler would look right, but maybe there is something new out there. I am also worried about water-based vs. oil-based, as I do not want a reaction with what is already on the table. Thanks for any and all help!

Answer:
Problem solved, "D", ! I had tables like this at one time and I agree, the grooves collect crud and hard to clean out. Do this; Mask the grooves off on each side and fill in with liquid plastic, let harden. Ace hardware here, where I reside, carries liquid plastic by the can or spray on. Comes in various colors including black and clear. Problem solved.

Question : Looking for washer/dryer and a kitchen table set for a teenage daughter's new apartment. Any furniture:couch.
Looking for washer/dryer and a kitchen table set for a teenage daughter's new apartment. Any furniture:couch.

Answer:
Your best bet would be to use www.craigslist.com It is broken down by area and you can check for furniture that would be local for you to see and pick-up.

Question : What color furniture would look best for a kitchen table?
I heard you can mix 3 colors of wood in a room-is this correct? Our floor is light maple hardwood, our walls are creme, we have a dark navy couch, and a brown colored coffee table. In this same living room/kitchen, we need to buy a kitchen table. What color wood should we stick with for this piece?Oh, and our entertainment center is a light maple too.

Answer:
Since the you're already going with maple for both your floor and your entertainment center, I would just stick with the maple.Too many different color woods in the same room can make your room look like it's a bunch of stuff you just threw together, and not a well planned out room.

Question : How do i stop my cat from peeing on my tables, furniture, etc?
My fixed, female cat will pee on everything from the kitchen table to papers in the office. She was fixed very young and didn't start this problem until recently. She will still use the litter box that is in the bedroom, but will pee in the kitchen, office, or living. If we can't fix it, we will have to get rid of her. I love her to death and really don't want to, so PLEASE help! Thanks!

Answer:
Definitely get her checked by a vet. Many cats end up in the shelter for this reason and often it's a urinary tract infection. Also any major changes could be stressing her and causing her to do this. Changes in food, a new person or animal in the house, her litter box being moved, things like that. Also it could just be that your cat is anxious. My boss's cat was put on prozac by his vet because he used to spray everywhere due to stress. He no longer sprays and is a much happier cat.

Question : How do I get rid of these tiny ants in my kitchen?.?
They are hardly visible unless they are in a large groupo. They are black and have the size of a small flea. Too hard to follow them. (my kitchen table is black granite) Raid or any other ant-killer work only for short time and then they are back. I want some NATURAL treatment/solution I can use. I have kids that will touch the kitchen tables and furniture.I am afraid cloves dont work. I have tried it. As of taking of every thing they like to eat, I would have to empty my kitchen and pantry!. they even bite/break sugar bags and get inside. You open a pack of sugar and you find several of them in there. The package was perfect from the supermarket but they got into it. They even got inside the honey bottle which was hermetically closed. I dont know how they managed to get inside there.

Answer:
I had the same problem when i was living in Florida, i know the exact ants you are talking about. I am afraid the oatmeal will not work neither will the Windex solution, reason for this is there are far too many ants, there are millions of them. Now here is what i did. I am from the UK and i remembered some ant poison i used to use here, i know you want a natural product but i am afraid it is not possible with these ants. The product is called nippon. It is like a syrup and the ants eat it and take it back to the nest. If you know anyone in the UK get them to send you some or maybe try on eBay. This stuff works but it does take time, you need to let them take it to the nests so no killing them. You can leave it along there trails away from your kids reach, Good luck, i know how horrible they are.

Question : Can Anyone Recommend A Place For Retro/Vintage Kitchen Furniture?
I live in Nashville so while I prefer staying in the Metro-Nashville area, a day trip over overnight to other areas accessible by car is just fine....such as Atlanta, GA....Already know about the Flea Market at the TN State Fair Grounds...that's one possibility. The Hubby & I are interested in a small kitchen table & chair set...the ones with chrome trim/legs, formica top and the vinyl chairs....think late 50's-early 60'sIn fact if you've ever watched Everybody Loves Raymond, Ray's parents' have such a set..Altho I prefer red, gray or black, other colors are a consideration....I've priced newly manufactored 'knock-offs' and they are pricey-rather have the real deal as long as it's gently used....a ding or spot here or there is no biggie. You expect that sort of thing. We might not be able to purchase immediately however if we come across a deal, we can always store it in our storage unit.Right now we are just looking to see what's out there. Can anyone suggest a place , hopefully one they have used themselves? Thanx!

Answer:
Don't live in your area but suggest you put an ad in a local community paper. Lots of people have this sort of stuff stored away and don't even think about getting rid of it until they see a "Wanted" ad. Or wait to see 'estate sale" usually kids are selling their late parents stuff and since most people passing on now are parents of boomers they would be in the right age bracket to still have kept that stuff. Lastly check out the thrift stores. Ask them to keep an eye out for you if anything likethat comes in.

Question : I am a furniture and upholstery fabrics retailer in Greece. How can I get rid all of my high quality stock?
My in-store premium products are in perfect condition but their prices are too high for the existing market. I have sofas, armchairs, dinner and living room tables, chairs and kitchen furniture. The designs vary from classic to modern designs. I also have many fabrics and curtains. The brands I have been working with are market leaders of the luxury furniture market. I am closing down my business and I don't know what to do with my excess stock.Any ideas?

Answer:
Here in the US when someone is going out of business they mark down everything and have a "Liquidation Sale". They advertise the sale to turn as much as they can into cash and then donate the rest and the loss is claimed against the taxes. There are even companies that will buy out places at a low price and resell the goods. You should talk to a business accountant to see what your best options are.Good luckChris
