Question : How many yards of fabric will I need for 14 table runners for 12 8 ft tables and 2 6 ft?
I am trying to make my own burlap runners and I am not so keen on the math of fabric...well math at all actually. Could someone help me with this high school equation? Thanks!
Answer:
You need 56 yards, IF, and ONLY if, the burlap is wider than 36". If it's narrower, you need 2x as much to accommodate the width of the table.(12'8"= 4 yards per table, allowing for overhang on both ends)

I've only seen them with the runners crossing over in the center, not off to the side like you are wanting, I like the idea though!

making the table runners for my wedding, the tables are round 5 foot tables. how many yards of fabric should i use on each one?
Answer:
It depends on how long you want the runners--do you want them just the length of the table, or hanging over on the ends--and how wide you want the runners to be. I'm assuming the tables are 5 feet in diameter. Add that length to the overhang you want on each side, add 1/2" on each end for seam, and then double it--unless you want the runners to be single ply. The amount of yardage would depend on the final measurement (the width of the runner plus 1/2" seams).

you can check ebay for vintage table runners or scarves, but I am afraid they would be really girlie and lacy looking. What I did for my room was buy a solid color table runner for my dresser. Much more modern looking than lace doiley.

Question : I am making 14 table runners for a 90x132" rectangle table. How many yards of fabric will I need?
I would like my table runners to be 11" wide but I can't figure the calculation for the yards of fabric. I would also like to gain at least 2 table runners per 2 yards of fabric using a 32" wide piece of fabric. Thank you for your answers!
Answer:
Most fabric is 44" wide. and you need fabric for the top and fabric for the bottom of the runner. Two yards of fabric would give you 72 inches in length. With seams - 2 yards of 36" fabric would give you two runners about 11" x 70". That would be ONE layer only. Just your top layer of the runner. You can just put in a small hem all the way around. but usually runners are made with a top and bottom layer. So if you needed 14 table runners. You would need 14 yards of fabric just for a single layer runner. So if you wanted to a top and bottom layer to each runner you would need to double that.If your fabric was 44" in width you could get 3 runners from each 2 yards. 11x70If you needed it to be longer than 70" you would need to 1. cut and piece the runner together2. get a more fabricTable runners usually do NOT go over the edge of the table like tablecloths do

I am on a tiiight budget. my venue has two sizes of round tables, and they include beautiful ivory linens at no charge. i was considering maybe renting or making table runners as a cheaper alternative to completely different linens. my questions is though, will runners work with round tables? i love the look with rectangles but I dont know if ive ever seen it done on round. thanks!

Hah! I just answered a similar question with the advice about tableclothsfactory.com and apparently Jenny Lynn liked my advice! I actually bought my table runners from there and they looked great on round tables. Question : Should table runners be as long as round table cloths?
For my October Wedding, I would like to add a little something more to the round,plain white reception table linens. I ordered sheer sparkly chocolate colored fabric that i would like to make into table runners. I will be using 2 runners per table. They will cross at the center where the centerpieces will sit. Should the runners be the same length as the cloths? The cloths hang 6 inches over the table edge. Thanks so much for any info.

table runners dont have to be the same length as the table cloth as long as they make it over the edge of the table you will be fine... however as far as crossing the runners depending on the style of the runner... the size of the table... and the center piece your using I might suggest against that... for a few reasons... 1 is there is any kind of bead work or thick details in the center where they cross it might make it hard for the center pieces to stand without falling... furthermore if the tables are too small the runners might take away from the overall decorations personally I might suggest one per table as apposed to two but again I dont know how big the tables are or what else you have on the tables or what the center piece looks like but I would suggest that simple is better I agree using a runner will help take away from the plain white just keep in mind that you dont want to overdo it... that and in the end its really about what makes you happy to have fun with it
