Questions & Answers
Question : Only thing not working on Cuisinart coffeemaker except the heating plate. What's wrong?
I have a Cuisinart Grind and Brew coffeemaker. Everything works (grinder, clock, programming) except that the water won't drain into the coffee pot and the plate won't heat up? What happened? Is there a reset button or is it permanently broken?
Answer:
it's not unusual for that heating element to burn out.that's usually permanent. you need to change that plate with element.

Question : How do I remove the plastic smell and taste from a coffeemaker?
I have a new black and decker coffeemaker, all plastic, including the carafe. It has a very noticeable plastic smell and taste to the coffee, just about undrinkable. Have run vinegar through it several times, washed several times, water through several times, baking soda too. Still there after several pots of coffee too. Any ideas? Throw it away? My husband thinks it is tolerable, but I cannot drink it. And I don't think it can be at all good for you, if not harmful. (the plastic fumes, not the coffee) :) Thanks.
Answer:
Man, I would have thought that the vinegar would have done the trick!Hopefully you have a sunny day this week. Let it sit outside in the sun...the UV rays do a terrific job of ridding odors out of things.Give that a try. Good luck!

Question : How to adjust heating element on coffeemaker?
We have a new Black & Decker Spacemaker coffeemaker, the under-the-counter style. We LOVE this design. It's a great spacesaver, the water tank is super easy to fill and carry without spilling, and the coffee pot pours without spilling a drop. The only down side is the coffee isn't hot enough. I'm a pretty good tinkerer, but wanted to get some advice before tackling the guts of my coffeemaker. Does anybody know how to adjust the heating element to make the coffee hotter? Thanks bunches!
Answer:
These thermostats are fixed and usually permanently mounted to the heating element. They cannot be replaced or adjusted.

Question : Coffeemaker issues! How do I get the grinds out of the filter area?
The filter in my coffeepot folded over and the grinds leaked out. I've already run two pots of water and vinager through it, but I still can't get them all out. The filter basket area is not detachable. Any ideas? Thanks!
Answer:
An old toothbrush is an awesome scrubber for those ridged areas. Wash as you normally would using the toothbrush, and rinse thoroughly with cold water to remove any suds. All should be fine. I periodically wash mine just because the oils in coffee beans leave a film after a number of uses. Enjoy your coffee!

Question : why does my coffeemaker, if left on, makes coffee concentrate?
If I make a regular 12 cup pot(8oz in a cup, 2tbsp per cup-Maxwell House's Breakfast Blend.) After its finished brewing, its coffee and it's delicious, but if i leave the full pot to keep warm on its warmer, i notice some coffee evaporates, and concentrates the coffee. The first cups great the second cups like tar. Any advice to stop it from getting stronger/bitter/thick over time?
Answer:
The heating element keeping the coffee warm burns away some of the liquid, making the coffee left in the pot stronger. You can buy a thermal pitcher for under $10 (or up to $100) and pour your entire fresh brewed pot of cofee into that to keep coffee warm and fresh for about 4-6 hours if you preheat it with really hot water first http://www.amazon.com/Insulated-Beverage-Server-SP-20BK-Category/dp/B0007XYSV2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s= kitchen&qid=1280437638&sr=1-2 or http://www.amazon.com/Copco-Thermal-Capacity-Brushed-Stainless/dp/B000EN8DMU/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?ie=UTF 8&qid=1280437683&sr=8-3-fkmr0Or buy a fancy pot that brews directly into a thermal pitcher :) http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-EC-BD15-Thermal-Carafe-Coffee/dp/B0000X7CMQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hom e-garden&qid=1280437683&sr=8-1-spell

Question : Can someone suggest a good coffeemaker that will make one cup or a pot?
I have this Bunn that needs replaced, but I don't want another because the water seems to go through too fast and wastes the coffee.
Answer:
Having 5 different coffee makers I can safely say that any machine that makes a pot full can not make just 1 cup, at least not a good 1 cup. It seems like you need to make at least 1/2 batch for the machines to work right. 8 cup maker, make at least 4 cups. I've seen little Mr. Coffee units that do 2 cups, that'd be good for your single. That or a Bodum press.
