Question : How to sell household small appliances in Chicago?
I have some new small appliances like hot-dog maker, air purifier, juicer, blender... Does anybody knows if there's any store would purchase these things with good price in Chicago?I've tried ebay, not working.

Answer:
Try www.craigslist.com for the Chicago area.

Question : favorite kitchen gadgets?
I'm not talking about small appliances, pots, pans or stuff like that. I'm talking about a gadget you have that makes a job easier. Some examples I like are my cast iron lime juicer, a really good garlic press. I'm looking for more unusual gadgets that most common cooks may not know about. I'm looking for gift ideas. Thanks

Answer:
I have a mortar and pestle from Mexico. It's made from volcanic rock- and I use it to bruise herbs, crush spices, make pastes (like ginger or garlic paste), make hummus. I bought it as a souvenir, and I can't imagine what I would do without it.

Question : Vintage Sunbeam Mixmaster - how does it work?
I bought an old Sunbeam Mixmaster. It is heavy and locks onto the arm of a base upon which turns a bowl. It came with a juicer attachment set : 1) a bowl with 2 holes in it; one center and one funnel shaped. 2)a ceramic juicer cone with a center metal rod that is notched at the end. 3) a clamp on thing that has two paralell metal prongs on it about 2 1/2 inches long ( what is it??) There is a hole on top of the entire unit, next to the handle, that looks like it should accomodate the juicer parts, but the handle of the mixer is in the way. On the opposite side of the handle there is a tiny slot shaped hole. Could it be for a key to remove the handle? If not, how to do so? Also, do the beaters detach from this appliance? The only other clues I see are 2 black button- like shapes about 3/8" diam. one on either side of the mixer body just below the handle. When I unscrewed one of them a small spring popped out from behind it. Does anyone remember these mixers and how they work? ThanksThank you! I found a picture of a similar model with a juicer attachment on eBay - It turns out the circular front end of this mixer rotates counter-clockwise to the side so the handle is out of the way of the juicer port. The juicer bowl then sets onto the port (metal tube that sticks up next to where the handle was), and the juice reamer rod nestles down inside the bowl and into the port. It was tough to turn the front/handle part of the mixer at first. I do see that other models of the Mixmaster have different ways to attach the juicer. Thanks so much for all of your interest! Also, the repair shop site in the first answer is super - great info - Thanks!Oh- as soon as I turned the front of the mixer to the side the beaters released and fell out - a double revelation! From the Dave's repair website I learned to grasp the handle at the thicker base when turning it to the side, rather than grab the thinner end of the handle and risk it breaking off. Thank you all again for your replies. Every bit of info helps!

Question : Getting confused about my kitchen appliances?
I own a blender and recently purchased a food processor. In the future, I hope to acquire an electric juicer, and a stone mortar and pestle. Which of these appliances, at least the two I already have, would do the jobs otherwise done by the juicer and the mortar-pestle? I want the mortar and pestle to use for mixing a paste of clay mud for my skin, but would I really need it for grinding other foods if I already have the blender and the food processor? Can fruit juices be made with the blender or food processor? Do I even need an electric juicer? Next, I would like to grind whole-bean coffee when I got the chance. I don't want to risk hurting my blender, it was a Christmas gift, and I don't even think it is sturdy enough of a brand [my mom couldn't afford a top-model blender, she payed perhaps $25 for it at WalMart]. The food processor is Hamilton Beach brand, and I've never really had much contact with a food processor before, and it is relatively small, but my fiancee took a look at it and casually remarked, "that's a good food processor, baby." :)I'm so confused!!! Plus, I would read the directions to my food processor for help, but I bought it from a yard sale, and it was devoid of its packaging. What should or shouldn't I buy?

Answer:
If you want to grind coffee beans, get a coffee bean grinder for that! You can also use it to grind spices. A blender will not handle coffee beans or spices properly. You can pick up a coffee grinder for under $20. I have never owned a mortar and pestle, and never needed one for anything in the kitchen. I would NOT want to use the same mortar and pestle for facial masks and food! I have also never had an electric juicer, but have been tempted to get one. However, the good ones are quite expensive! I understand from friends that the opening to put fruits and vegetables in is really important, and should be plenty large. In the meantime, if you peel and cut up and de-seed the fruits you want to turn into juice, you can do a pretty good job in a blender. If you don't want pulp in the juice, use a strainer. When I have on occasion picked up appliances at Salvation Army, etc., I have found the manuals on the manufacturers' web sites! You might try that for your food processor.

Question : Can I get an opinion on these gift ideas?
I'm getting a gift for my sister. The two items i've picked out are pretty relevant to her life. But if you were in her shoes which one would you like to get more?A. A Juicer. She's very pro-organic and green oriented. I thought if I got her a juicer she'd be able to make her own organic juice in the morning without worrying about unnatural sugars or hormones or other issues with pre-made juices. She also said she's in need of more smaller appliances.orB. A GPS watch. Since she does a lot of half marathons and jogs a lot, I found a watch that measures distance, burned calories and fat, speed, altitude, distance etc. I thought this might be really beneficial for her training. The drawback is the one that I found is 50 dollars more than the juicer I found. But in the end price isn't really an issue. I want to get her something really nice because she always buys me something really nice.So if you were in her shoes and you could pick which one you wanted, which would you go for? :)

Answer:
Hi Tara, both are great ideas, but I would probably pick the Juicer. She sounds like the type of person that's going to stay in shape and keep up with her jogging and exercising and would less likely need to worry at this point about how many calories she's burning or distance she's running. A juicer, on the other hand, is something she could use daily and enjoy home made shakes or juice, which like you said, are much healthier for you.

Question : Know any good contractors?
I am a disabled veteran looking for a good contractor, preferably not on the spendy side, who has experience in construction of galactic battle-stations. I am in need of a fully operational battle-station to be a symbol of my power, and to grant myself the ability to eradicate any planet in any system. The size should be roughly the size of that of a small moon. It should have the ability to destroy a planet (complete utter destruction of the structure of the planet/no living lifeforms to be able to survive/no noticeable features other than assorted asteroids) using a ray/beam/cannon, as long as the ray/beam/whatever is able to be produced by a generator over a couple days, and to be able to be produced many times. This ray/beam/cannon must be able to hit and destroy the planet from a far enough range that the gravitational pull of the planet/asteroid/moons does not danger the station. To be efficient at destroying multiple planets, the station should be able to travel from system to system in fair time. When comparing my model to other models, I've noticed that a major flaw would be an exhaust shaft that, when fired with proton cannons, causes a mass meltdown and overall grand-destruction of the station. I have also discovered the existence of a tunnel, this was during production of the station, I'm not sure whether or not that this tunnel was intended to be covered up, but the entrance seemed to be finished, that led to the core of the station, and was vulnerable to destruction and inevitable meltdown. I want neither of these or anything that would bear any resemblance to whether it be concept or opportunity of meltdown/absolute destruction. To ensure the safety from similar battle-stations, mine has to have a great sensory system. To protect itself from large ships, great cannons must be added to destroy threats. To deter smaller ships, smaller cannons and turrets must be added. These safety measures will be also supported by a large shield system. While this is partially to show my power, I would like the inside to be comfortable. I don't need the most up-to-date appliances and furniture, but I would like many of the basics (stove, oven, tv, game-systems, refrigerator, microwave, 4 slot toaster, juicer, clocks in convenient locations, blender, mixer, sound system). You will have to consult with my personal chef on kitchen appliances. Overall, I want a welcoming interior. There will be a housewarming party so if there are any recommended caterers, that would be appreciated. I wish to have construction to start by the beginning of 2012, able to occupy by that December (2012 much?), and completed after the next year, so I would like to have all bids in by September 1st. Being a fallen Clone War General, overshadowed by Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire, I find that this will finally show my dominance in the galaxy. Thank you for recomendations on good contractors who can fit following descriptions. No Rodians, Gungans, or Toydarians. Thank you.

Question : Is it worth getting amazon's 2 year service plan for a juicer?
http://www.amazon.com/2-Year-Replacement-Small-Appliances-74-99/dp/B000CO77W8/ref=acc_glance_ktch_sp _SVC_1_titDoes this seem reputable?

Answer:
For a kitchen appliance priced less than $100, I'd recommend just using the manufacturer's warranty, which is usually 90 days. For appliances, electronics or other purchases higher than $300, I'd consider a price comparison of Amazon's extended warranty vs. Squaretrade's offer. One other factor to consider is how difficult the repair/replacement plan has been for other buyers. Check the reviews for that specific product before you commit.

Question : Do you use your fruit juicer?
...if not, can i have it? lol joke.ok i have a few questions.Im a teen and i have realised that my diet is really bad! I only have like 1 fruit after 3 months! Im not fat but i dont think its healthy for me. I dont really like the idea eating fruits (the only fruits i eat are usually just bananas, apples take me ages to eat)Im on a budget and the cheapest one i have seen on argos is this, which is £20http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4233684/c_1/1|category_root|Kitchen+and+laundry |14418476/c_2/3|15701302|Small+kitchen+appliances|14418587/c_3/4|cat_14418587|Juicers|14418608.htmif you have it, is it good?if you dont have that one but you do have a fruit juicer do you use it all the time? i dont wan to waste my money on it and then dont bother using it...and..yeah thats all i can think of now. Thanks for your help.

Answer:
Aslam-o-Alikum,How are you sister? Any time is good for exercise but you should exercise at the same time everyday when you exercise...Also, if you eat only 3 meals per day and don't eat anything between those meal, and drink a lot of water, then you don't have to worry about loosing weight...I am sorry, I don't have that fruit juicer, therefore; I won't say it's good or bad...I hope I helped

Question : What's the difference between food processors, smoothie makers and juicers?
I would like to make my own vegetable and fruit smoothies, soups and other blended food but I'm confused which small appliance to buy. They all seem to do the same thing but how come they're called differently? What do you think I should get?

Answer:
Food Processor: chops, grates food. Using different blades you can do different preps.Blender: Chops, grates, crushes ice, & makes food much finer to the point of like a smoothieSmoothie Makers: are usually not as powerful as a good Blender. They are much more limited in there uses that either a food Processor or BlenderJuicer: Extracts & separates the pulp of the fruit or veggie from the juice.I own a Blender with a small food processor attachement(Hamilton Beech) & a Juicer(Jack LaLanne). I find the 2 are what I need for my healthy diet & lifetstyle. Both are moderately priced & I am pleased with the work they do. My daughter owns a Vitamix Blender & a Champion Juicer & luvs them both. They are much more upscale than I have.I hope this was helpful.Slainté (to your health)

Question : Can someone help me find a 20 min recipe?
I'm taking a class about kitchen equipment and we are required to do a 20 minute demonstration for the class on a small appliance. I chose to demo an electric juicer. The professor is pretty strict about getting the demo to be as close as possible to 20 mins. Do you know of any recipes I can make using the juicer within that time? I thought about throwing in a bunch of different fruits to make a smoothie but it kinda seems like i'd be done too quickly. I don't want to end up making a 5 minute recipe and having to just stand there talking for the other 15 minutes. I don't think I can do 2 different recipes because the pulp would be in the filter basket from the previous recipe and I don't know if I wouldn't have time to clean it twice (after each recipe). The mesh on the filter basket is so fine that it's a little difficult to scrub out. After making my recipe, I thought about showing the class how to clean the juicer too, which would be part of the 20 minutes. My class is in a kitchen so we have most kitchen appliances and tools available to use, so we're allowed to use other things in our demo if we need to. Like for example, i'm allowed to use my juicer (my demo appliance) to juice vegetables and then finish the recipe in a pot over the cooktop. If it helps, this is the juicer i'm doing my demo on: http://www.brevilleusa.com/juicing/juice-fountain-compact.html
