Question : What's the point in a metal dish rack if it's going to rust?
I bought a a metal dish rack. It's sleek and really nice looking. However, it rusts (not the drip tray, but the bottom of the rack). I hand wash all my dishes and leave them in there to dry before putting them away. Are there any metal dish racks out there that do not rust?

Question : Does the dishwasher drain water without being turned on? I want to eliminate the need for a dish rack.?
I won't turn the dishwasher on everyday as I don't have extra stuff to eat/cook with. My apartment kitchen is really small and I was wondering if I can just dry dishes in the dishwasher instead of the dish rack. Will the water drain out or accumulate near the drain pipe?

it would only drain if you turn it on and the pump would remove the water in the bottom.you could use the top rack for the dish rack and take out the bottom rack, set a plastic tub in the bottom to catch the drips. maybe one of those storage containers like for keeping clothes in or maybe even something like a plastic kitty litter pan.

go to the dollar store and buy a wire rack and buy a coat hanger or two that is the same color as the rack, bring then home and screw pieces of the coat hanger to the top cabinet and space them the same size of the rack, let the 4 wires hang down then wire your rack them, wire them tight and level and it should work great! I am looking for one of those dish racks that are attachable to the sink. Has anyone ever seen them before, and if so, what store or website was it? I tried Target, Crate&Barrel, Wal-Mart, Bed Bath & Beyond and Linens and Things. I can't seem to find it. Help!

Oops, didn't plan on this but I need a place to drain and air dry the kitchen dishes after washing them in a corner sink that sits at an angle. Not much counter space here.It's not a double sink, it's a D shaped single.

Question : Where can I find building plans for over-the-sink dish racks / shelves?
I'd like to install a set of wooden or metal dish drying racks / shelves over my kitchen sink. I've seen a couple of pictures of this sort of thing online and found them called Shaker-style, drying cabinets and popular in Europe but haven't been able to find plans to build them. Any suggestions?

Try going to Rockler's woodworking on the web; Im unsure of their .com address. They see many different kinds of things, have some projects, & or perhaps have some sort of kit. Also, do a search under "woodworking plans" or something like that. Try the DIY network's site, This Old House, Lowes, Home Depot & so forth might get you to the right site.Good luck; I like the look of this dish racks also.
