Editorial Review :
The flour wand produces an even and fairly light dusting of flour, confectioners sugar, or cocoa. At the end of a stainless steel handle with a squeeze mechanism is a spiraled ball that is pointed at either end. Dip the open ball into your flour, take the pressure off the handle, and the ball closes, trapping a few spoonfuls of flour in its spiral. That done, you have only to wave the wand over your dough and counter, and you're ready to roll. Think of using the flour wand the next time you want to decorate a cake top in the simplest way. The wand fits easily into a sealed canister for convenient storage. 6.5 inches in length.

Editorial Review :
Decorative and versatile family of kitchen canisters in our favorite color. Mix and match for all 3 sizes of your baking, cooking, snacking and composting needs. Elegant on a classy dinner table and casual enough for everyday use. Choose your quantity and save with larger sets! Hand-made in the U.S.A, it's great for home or restaurants. They're made with lead-free glaze, rich color, signature styling, and timeless designs that stick around for years (so you'll be able to get more down the road. The mfr. says their regular dishes are oven safe to at least 350F degrees, while the matching bakeware is designed designed for up to 500F degrees. They recommend against putting the items on a stovetop or directly under a broiler. Please keep this in mind: As Fiestaware is hand-made and fired in an old school factory, each piece is unique and you'll see occasional porcelain dimples or scuffs (which show more on the dark colors) as part of the process. They're made in an old workshop with a process used since 1936; these are part of the charm and character of Fiestaware!

Questions & Answers
Question : Refinishing Built In Cabinet?
So I've been sanding a big built in cabinet-basically like a dining room hutch that used to be in our kitchen. It's so old it has the flour and sugar bins built in (our house was built in 1913). My question is-if I want to stain it again do I have to sand it down to pristine wood or can I simply remove the top layers of the old stain? Right now there is a shade difference between areas that have been sanded with a power sander and the areas I have had to do by hand. We plan on staining it really dark, so I'm wondering if it will take and if there will be a huge color difference if I don't have it all matching before we start staining. I don't mind if it ends up having some "character," but I don't want it to look horrible. Any advice would be welcome!*Oh, and the areas I have done by hand "feel" like wood now, but its the color difference I was wondering about.
Answer:
No, you don't have to take it down to bare wood. And yes, it will give the piece added character. As long as you've removed any varnish or wax that would block the stain, stain away. If you need to even up the tone, simply leave the stain on longer in those areas.Especially in a functional piece like you've described, I think an old piece of furniture/cabintery should *look* old. Be proud of that time-worn patina!

White w/whiteporcelaintop,blktrim, red&black stripes on corners of top doors red&black half circles & stripes on top trim of cabinet.Hoosie style but has no tag on it anywhere, flour bin, sugar bin, rolltop door, bread drawer would like to know what it's worth for resell, excellent condition
Answer:
It sounds like you are describing a Hoosier cabinet. My mother had one when I was a child. I've also seen them in antique stores. Check with some antique stores or dealers in your area for similar pieces. You could also probably go online and find the value.

Question : Are there any food stores that sell organic bulk bin foods in Virginia or Maryland?
I've been trying to find organic flours sold in bulk bins in the Virginia, D.C. and Maryland area? No one I've called has any information but I know this area has to have something for what I'm looking for. I'm looking for organic flours like oat, brown rice, millet, etc. that I can buy inexpensively by the pound from bulk bins. Willing to drive up to 75 miles to find such a place. Please help me in my quest. Thank you, Adrienne
Answer:
Those kinds of flour will never be inexpensive as they are specialty and you will charged a boatload for that alone. If you know the name of the brand of flour you want, find that companies web site and do a product search. These guys sell stuff here in Minnesota in regular grocery stores and offer some organic. I noted on their web site that they do have an on line store. Check it out.www.hodgsonmill.com

Question : Why do they call Indiana "The Hoosier State?"?
I think it's Indiana. And also, my Grandmother used to have a rather tall wall cabinet which had a flour bin and funnel to it where she made delicious pies, etc. It too was called a hoosier. As an interior designer, I am coureous how BOTH got their name ?
Answer:
Because that's its nickname..

Question : Hi fellow seniors, does Halloween pass by quietly in your area or are you besieged by noisy revellers?
Thankfully here our neighbourhood doesn't have too much trouble but the area where my friends live they absolutely dread it as they get up turned bins, flour and egged, washing up liquid on the doors and windows etc. even when they do hand out the treats. They've just told me that the police are going to be patrolling their area with a little more vigilance than usual to keep the community happy, not to spoil the youngsters 'fun' and to hand out cautions as and when befitting the case.As to what effect this will have remains to be seen but I suppose at least they're doing something about it.Anyway here's wishing you all a Happy and Peaceful Halloween.
Answer:
I live in an area where it is usually very quiet on Halloween. I haven't seen anyone in my street in over five years on the trick or treat beat.Having said that, it must still go on somewhere as the village stores refuse to sell flour and eggs to minors during this period, and if you walk through the village the next day, you can see evidence of either over enthusiastic children with poor aiming skills, or lost hens that lay broken eggs by the kerbside!Thames Valley Police came round a few days back to most of the older folk with cards to put on their door, which read,"No Trick Or Treat, Please enjoy your night without disturbing ours". I always forget to put the card up, and no problems have arisen to date.I cannot even remember Halloween from my childhood, but for those who enjoy it, Happy Halloween.

Question : Where can I find and antique pie safe?
The pie safe I am looking for is very old, probably early 1900 to mid 1900. It has 2 doors at the top, I think, one has a flour sifter in it and on the door is a grocery list with indicators to point to items needed and I believe there was a flour bin. The working space is porcelin enamel with a roll top cover and has separate workspace that slides out from under the main one. There are drawers underneath for things such as utensils your flour cloth, etc It is made of wood and this one was white. As I remember it was on short legs but about 8 ft. tall total.I believe it was made and used where everything you would need while you were making pie crust, bread dough, and such was all there in one place. This item was in Orange Texas in a very simple home. The lady did all of her own cooking, canning, bakingetc. from scratch.
Answer:
http://www.kitchenfurniture.biz/HTML/jelly.htmlBUT, what you are describing is a Hoosier Cabinet, not a pie safe.
