These metal SNAP lids and screw bands for mason jars seal home canned foods airtight. After heat processing and upon cooling, a vacuum is formed which seals the lids onto the jars. The lids are laquered to prevent rust and have an interior enamel coating to resist natural food acidity.
Screw bands can be reused, but SNAP lids are designed for one-time use only.

Apply screw band just until fingertip tight; do not overtighten. After processing, remove jars from canner and set upright on a towel in a draft-free place. Do not retighten screw bands or check for seal while jars are hot. Cool processed jars upright, undisturbed for 24 hours. After 24 hours, check seals. These replacement screw-on, one-piece metal vacuum caps for canning jars seal home canned foods airtight. A soft rubber gasket on the interior of the cap ensures a venting effect during processing, allowing steam to escape and creating a vacuum which seals the caps onto the jars. The caps are laquered to prevent rust and have an interior enamel coating to resist natural food acidity.

Vacuum caps are designed for one-time use only.~For best results, fill the jar with room-temperature prepared recipes, leaving recommended headspace. Wipe jar rim and threads with a clean, damp cloth removing any stickiness. Place the cap on the jar and twist until the cap is in contact with the glass rim; tighten with moderate strength. After processing, leave the jars in the water until they are completely cool. Ensure that a hollow has been formed in the middle of the cap; if a hollow has not formed, repeat the process with a new lid.

Questions & Answers
Question : Is it possible to extend the shelf life of oatmeal by a vacuum sealer or canning jar? If so, by how long?
Is it possible to extend the shelf life of oatmeal by a vacuum sealer or canning jar? If so, by how long?

Answer:
Vacuum sealer is the only way to keep your oatmeal, will last up to 5 times as long as in the original container. If you get a vacuum sealer and want to freeze your vegetables. First freeze the vegetables for an hour or two then vacuum seal them, that way they won,t stick together in a clump.

Question : Will the food saver brand 'meal saver' work with the jar attachment?
I just got a Foodsaver brand 'Mealsaver' And I am wanting to get the Wide jar sealer attachment, But I cant find anything that says it will, or won't work with it. Any help would be great. Thank youThe Model Is the "MEALSAVER"

Answer:
Not sure which model you bought. You need a special attachment cover which goes over the top of the jar and has a small hole in the top that the "air removal tube" fits into. Some of these "covers" come with their own tube. They actually become the cover on your jar. My Foodsaver machine has a pull out tube on the bottom on the lower right hand side. The tube is attached to a black plastic half moon shaped handle type thing. This also gets the air out of the special containers that come with some of the machines but can also be purchased separately.Sorry, I can't be of more help. I've used the containers but never the jar seal

Question : Homemade spaghetti sauce in jar?
I make homemade spaghetti sauce and and am thinking of making a big batch and keeping them in sterilized mason jars. Can somebody recommend a good vacuum sealer? Also, if I keep the sauce in jars vacuum sealed, how long can I have the jars non-refrigerated?

Answer:
Try using freezer baggies the zip type. If you look at this web site you will find that trying to "jar" tomato sauce is not an easy thing to do and can go bad in a hurry. http://www.uga.edu/nchfp/I would just freeze it. simpler and safer

Question : Can I use the boiling method to seal dry goods I'm canning?
I'm trying to figure out how to use the large Mason jars to seal up some peanut brittle I'll be making for Christmas and I was wondering because I don't have $200 for a vacuum can sealer, is it possible to use the 'boiling method' to vacuum seal dry goods? I know the jars have to get hot, but I was wondering if the air inside the jar getting hot would be enough to seal the can....plz help!

Answer:
I don't think so, and my food saver system only cost 79.00 at Sam's Club and it came with 5 rolls of bags 2 canisters and the jar seal thingie. It pays for itself really

Question : will mod podge seal acrylic on glass?
i started painting portraits on glass jars. sadly, acrylic paint comes off very easily if scratched. will pod podge [a waterbase sealer] protect it, or will this also scratch/ rub off easily since i am only painting it on over top of the acrylic?

Answer:
Try "water clear" polyurethane. It's a lot harder than mod podge and sticks well to most anything.

Question : Why are my jars not sealing when I can my slasa?
Please help, I followed the directions that said boil the jars and lids then put in the salsa. Put the top on and the sealer thing and then it should seal. Is that wrong? Do I put it back into the pot then boil it again?? Ugh...... im doing this right now so if you could help I would appreciate it. I don't have a pressure cooker, just so you know.

Answer:
u must keep the lids in hot water, not boiling water to keep the seal soft...also, make doubly sure to wipe each jar opening after filling w the salsa... u want a good seal. fill the jars, wipe the openings, put the lid and ring on and screw down tightly. put lidded jars back into a boiling water bath for 10 minutes...remove, turn upside down ontop a towel on a counter. let cool. 10 mins and then turn them right side up and you will hear them seal...you will hear a pop when it seals.

Question : question regarding Jar Sealer?
some jars or bottles are covered with a tight plastic seal that you have to cut after purchasing....does anyone know what that seal is called? and if anyone knows a certain equipment that seals please advise....many thanks in advance

Answer:
Safety sealhttp://www.artypac.com/artypac_artyband.htm

Question : Does the FoodSaver require different sealers for each different type or jar?
I have a brand new FoodSaver with the canisters and sealing lids. Can I use the canister lid sealers on mason jars or do I have to buy separate sealers for the wide mouth and regular mouth mason jars? It came without the box and/or instructions.

Answer:
you need a special lid for mason jars. good news is you can use the same one for both wide and regular mouth jars. i got mine at walmart they have a whole section of foodsaver accessories.

Question : what is the best food sealer to buy? That seals bags and canning jars for dried fruits and food?
I need to buy a food sealer. What is the best to buy that can seal bags and canning jars for dried fruits and food?

Answer:
the food saver system...mine came with a start up kit 2 rolls of large bags and 2 rolls of smaller bags, and 3 canisters.Got it at Sam's club for $79 LOVE it

Question : Anyone had experience using the Pump-N-Seal vacuum sealer/marinator on rare tobaccos? Sounds VERY interisting.
I use my Pump-N-Seal for almost all fresh, raw and cooked foods and expensive wines to keep them tasty and prolong freshness. My husband asked if it would work on his rare/expensive pipe tobaccos. I said yes... he is skeptical... he wants experienced confirmation. I told him just put it in any appropriately sized jar with a soft seal material in the lid, perhaps with a slice of apple, then pump-n-seal it and keep it in the refrigerator. I contacted the manufacture/distributor at pump-n-seal.com and they said there was no better way, but hubby says they are, of course, biased??

Answer:
I'm assuming that a Pump and Seal is something like a cryovac machine. It takes the air out of whatever you are trying to keep fresh ? If this is the case then your husband should be lucky that you found this item. I use mine to keep my "tobacco" fresh all the time. Also, after I seal the "tobacco" I keep it in the refrigerator for more freshness.
